We are excited and proud to announce that the Independent Television Service (ITVS) has granted major funding support for The Guardians. The funds will allow us to complete both production and post-production on the film, which we’ve been working on since the beginning of 2014. ITVS is an ideal co-production partner for The Guardians because of its mission to fund independent films that bring underrepresented stories to public television audiences.

The Guardians tells the story of two interconnected communities as they struggle to survive. In an ancient Oyamel forest, millions of monarchs cling to the trees in order to survive the winter, while Mexican farmers struggle to forge a sustainable life in the forest they once destroyed. Philosophical forester Aristeo seeks to unite his divided community in order to build a better future, and charismatic farmer Santos guards his only livelihood (avocados) against plague and poachers. Paralleling the epic journeys of animal and human, this lyrical tale of survival spans from the mountains of central Mexico to the northern plains of the United States.

Funding from ITVS is extremely competitive; our film was among only a handful selected from hundreds of submissions. In early July, we travelled to San Francisco to meet the staff for a three day producer’s orientation, where we learned the extent of their co-production partnership: both funding to complete the film and the people power to help make it the best film it can be. We are thrilled to have the support to bring this film to audiences across America.

The Guardians will be completed in 2016 with an expected release in early 2017. Please send any inquiries to info@eidolonfilms.com, and follow us on Facebook for further updates.
